I’ve been photographing weddings in Dallas/Fort Worth for 15 years, have worked close to 500 weddings and I am in no way ready to stop now. I’ve seen many fads come and go throughout the years and of course, my editing has evolved, thank God! But there are four things you will always notice in my portfolio, no matter the style of wedding or couple that I capture. I am drawn to light, color, movement and connection. I would love if you took the time to scroll through my portfolio while thinking of these four concepts and envision your wedding through this lens. Not comparing yourself to any other couple or wedding but dreaming of your perfect wedding day!
There are so many types of light and I see them all! I love using all sources of light on a wedding day, whether it’s natural or manmade. Window light coming in to a room creates a dramatic source if exposed correctly. Bright mid day light outside can showcase a beautiful blue sky and I love the harsh shadows it creates across the landscape. Sconces and indoor lighting can create moody warm light that provide intimacy and aura. Golden hour light glows and makes anyone look like a movie star! Along with light, I see the absence of it too and I love capturing those contrasting shadows and highlights and creating stunning silhouettes. Nothing screams boring louder than when a gallery is filled with images that have the same lighting concept. I love diversity and strive to be creative with my lighting so that you have multiple kinds of looks in your final wedding gallery.
Sure the bride normally wears white and white is a normal wedding color, but give me all the color! Black and white is always a classic and it really is beautiful but I get excited when I see color at weddings. I love pops of color that bring a room to life. I love finding color at engagement sessions and using it to compliment what my couples are wearing. I always keep colors consistent and true to life. Changing colors of dresses and flowers to fit a certain “editing style” just seems wrong to me. You chose those colors for a reason and a photographer shouldn’t be changing them, warming them or desaturating them. As you look through my portfolio, I hope you notice all of the pops of color, how I accentuate the different hues in the image to flatter the scene and couple and bring out the natural colors in the backgrounds. We don’t live in a drab world - life is vivid and wild and bright and I love creating art that reflects how I see the world.
While I do love an artistic pose full of stillness and intention, most of my favorite images are where we are moving. Photos can feel stiff really quick if we are only posing and smiling at the camera. Those candids where you are smiling, laughing, hugging and kissing will always be my favorites. But beyond that, I notice movement in so many details of a wedding day. Your veil blowing in the wind, dresses flowing and spinning, wisps of hair caressing shoulders. All of it helps to tell the story of your wedding day and I love trying to capture it all. My favorite movement of the day is when the dance party starts, drinks are flowing and everyone lets loose. I will always be on that dance floor with you, up close and personal, capturing all the FUN! Using my lighting along with the DJ/band/room lighting brings the party to life. Reception photos that look like all of the lights are on in the room is not my style whatsoever! The way your eye sees it is how I capture it. If you love fun party shots, I am your girl!
This may seem like a no-brainer…a photographer’s job is to capture the connection between a married couple. But not everyone sees connection like I do. When posing, I try to prompt you into situations that bring out authentic hugs, smiles, caresses and embraces. On a wedding day, I’m watching a couple’s parents and how they watch their children getting married, the emotion they can’t hold back and the tears that can’t stay inside. Grandmothers giving their “something old” to their granddaughter to wear. Bear hugs, hands shaking, families laughing. All of it speaks to your family’s connection with each other and I love capturing those moments that speak truth and beauty instead of just pretty posed pictures. Your wedding day isn’t a styled shoot for a magazine (even though it can definitely look like it with the right vendors!). Wedding days are loud, messy and wild, full of emotion and joy and stress. I love getting the honor of capturing it all for my couples so that when they view their galleries, they get to see moments they didn’t even see happening and relive their wedding day again in a new way.
